Eucalyptus Grandis:

  • Species: Eucalyptus Grandis.
  • Family: Myrtaceae.
  • Common Names: Rose gum.
  • Description: Eucalyptus Grandis (Rose gum) is excellent with tall, straight, clean holes up to two-thirds of the total height. The bark is thin and deciduous, shedding in strips to expose a smooth surface marked with flowing patterns of silvery white, slaty grey, terra cotta, or light green. At maturity, it is often 40 to 55 meters tall, and 60 to 120 centimeters in diameters. For furniture manufacturing, however, diameters from 25 centimeters and up are acceptable.
    The sapwood of Eucalyptus Grandis is pale pink and the heartwood is light to dark red.  The wood is straight grained, coarse textured and moderately strong. This rapidly renewable lumber is both stable and beautiful.
    Eucalyptus Grandis is one of the most important commercial eucalyptus species, planted in tropical and subtropical areas on four continents. Massive plantations have been carried out in South Africa and Brazil, and there are substantial plantings in Uruguay, Argentina, Thailand, Vietnam, etc.
  • Use: Use for almost everything you would use most hardwoods for, such as: outdoor and indoor furniture, flooring, decking and fence, panel, veneer and many other woodworking projects.
  • Density:
    • Green materials:850 - 900 kg/m3.
    • Dried materials: 650 - 700 kg/m3 (Moisture Content: 12% - 16%).
